FORETHOUGHT.net announced today that is has deployed and lit a new, fiber-optic transport system with 8 Terabit/second capacity, between Grand Junction, CO, and Montrose, CO. “Our business and the bandwidth we need to carry is growing radically in Montrose and surrounding areas. We needed a solution that would be disruptive in the marketplace – let us keep up with bandwidth demand, while ensuring long-term profitability, and total control of our own network.”, said Jawaid Bazyar, President of FORETHOUGHT.net. “This capacity will allow us to dramatically drive down long-haul bandwidth prices, as part of our mission to bridge the digital divide in rural Colorado.” DWDM, or Dense-Wave Division Multiplexing, is the technology that enables placing many parallel channels of fiber-optic signal on one fiber-optic circuit. FORETHOUGHT.net said it expects high demand for these services. “There is tremendous growth from government, and cellular, fixed wireless, and fiber to the home, and all… read more →

FORETHOUGHT.net announced that it is in the process of establishing peering at IX-WEST at Denver. IX-WEST is Denver’s newest peering point – special data centers where different Internet Providers connect to each other to exchange traffic. FORETHOUGHT.net was a pioneer of peering in the Denver Metro Area, and has maintained consistent peering point connectivity since the mid 1990s, when a small group of local ISPs got together to directly exchange traffic to save money, and to improve the user experience. I am thrilled to announce that FORETHOUGHT.net will be developing a true fiber to the home network in the Cascade Village community north of Durango, Colorado near the Purgatory ski resort. There are over 200 homes in this community. The project design involves extending fiber from Purgatory to Cascade Village, then installing fiber cable directly to each home in Cascade Village. In addition to offering true Gigabit Fiber Internet to every housing unit that is part of Cascade Village, we will provide telephone service, and, a little later in the year, beautiful HD quality TV programming over the Internet connection. We brought together an incredible coalition dedicated to dramatically changing the broadband landscape in rural Colorado. We received more than 60 letters of support from the community – residents, businesses, county and local governments, and the Southwest Colorado Council of Governments. Project funding comes from the Colorado Broadband Fund, Cascade… read more →
I am proud that FORETHOUGHT.net has been selected to be the Internet Service Provider for the Lake County School District, in Leadville, Colorado. We have been working to develop our market in Leadville and surrounding areas – including in Leadville, at nearby Red Cliff, Colorado. In this project, the Lake Couunty School District will not only receive Gigabit Fiber Internet five times faster than their previous provider at a fraction of the cost – but, they saved so much money that they were able to additionally invest in a new fiber network that will connect several other school sites together on a private, dark fiber WAN. We look forward to serving Lake County Schools, and, continuing to bring modern, gigabit fiber Internet to Leadville. http://www.lakecountyschools.net/
I am proud that FORETHOUGHT.net has been selected to be the Internet Service Provider for the Durango 9-R Schools. This builds on a long relationship we have had with 9-R via our subsidiary, Brainstorm Internet, based in beautiful Durango, Colorado. This was made possible through the incredible hard work my team has been doing over the past several years to completely rebuild and upgrade our regional backbone network in Western Colorado. Our backbone is redundant, fast, and utilizes state of the art router technology including MPLS. https://www.durangoschools.org/
Unfortunately, more and more, we are seeing resistance by property management companies for both residential and commercial property managers to deny their tenants access to the telecommunications provider of their choice. While we understand that property managers are often overworked, and don’t have a vested direct interest in the telecom business, the increasing refusal to work with telecoms is causing real problems for businesses like our customers. Just earlier this week, a property manager flat-out told us, and one of our customers (and their tenant) that “There’s enough fiber in here, use one of those”, denying their tenant their choice. We recommend that businesses seeking new office space, demand the inclusion of language along these lines into any lease agreement: “Landlord shall, so long as there is no direct cost to landlord, allow and facilitate Tenant to bring in the telecommunications provider of their choice.” It is I think often… read more →
